Organize your media
Put your media files in folders, find them, rename them, move them and delete them.
Browse the library
The library is organized in folders and subfolders, starting from the Media root. To move around:
- click a folder in the Folders tree on the left;
- click a folder tile on the page;
- use the path shown above the list to go back up one or more levels.
Manage folders
Create a folder
- Open the folder in which you want to create the new folder (or stay at the Media root).
- Click New folder.
- Type the name (60 characters at most), then click Create.
Two folders in the same place cannot have the same name.
Rename a folder
- Open the folder.
- Click the pencil icon Rename folder, next to the path.
- Change the name and click Rename.
Delete a folder
- Open the folder.
- Click the trash icon Delete folder, then confirm.
Only an empty folder can be deleted: it must contain no subfolder and no media file (outside the trash). Otherwise, the message “The folder is not empty.” appears. Media files from that folder that are in the trash go back to the Media root if you restore them.
Find a media file
Above the list, you have:
- Search by name: the search covers all folders, matches all or part of the name, and ignores upper and lower case. Each result shows the folder it is in.
- All types: show only Images or only Videos.
- All states: show only media files that are Ready, Processing or Failed.
- All tags: show only media files with a given tag.
If the list is long, click Show more at the bottom of the page.
Rename a media file and add tags
- Click the media file to open its details panel.
- Change the Name field (100 characters at most). By default, the name comes from the file name.
- In Tags, choose an existing tag from the list or type a new one, then press Enter (or click Add). You can type several tags separated by commas. To remove a tag, click its cross.
- Click Save. The Saved note confirms the change.
A tag is 30 characters at most. Tags are shared across the organization, and the same tag is never created twice with different capitalization.
Move media files
There are three ways to move media files:
- Drag and drop: drag a media file onto a folder in the tree, onto a folder tile or onto a step of the path. If the media file is part of a selection, the whole selection moves.
- Selection: tick the media files to move, then choose the destination in the Move to… list. Choose Media (no folder) to put them at the root.
- Details panel: open the media file, choose another Folder, then click Save.
To clear a selection, click Clear selection.
Delete media files
Move to the trash
- For one media file: open it and click Move to trash, then confirm.
- For several media files: tick them, then click Move to trash in the selection bar.
A media file in the trash is no longer offered in your content, but it can be restored until it is permanently deleted.
Restore or delete permanently
- Open the Trash tab. Each media file shows the date on which it will be permanently deleted.
- To get media files back, tick them and click Restore, or open a media file and click Restore.
- To delete a media file right away, open it and click Delete permanently, then confirm.
Permanent deletion
Permanent deletion cannot be undone. It frees the storage space used by the media file, which moving it to the trash does not. See Storage space.
A media file that is still in use
If you move to the trash a media file that published content still uses, Pixlova shows “This media file is still on air” and lists the content concerned, for example:
- Creation, Playlist or Program (with the published version number);
- Screen fallback content;
- Currently playing on a screen.
You then have two options:
- Remove the media file from that content and republish it, then move it to the trash.
- If your role allows it (Owner or Administrator, for example), click Move to trash anyway. The media file then disappears from the screens and the content that used it no longer shows it.
A media file used only in drafts does not block moving it to the trash.
