Elements
All the elements you can place on a creation, their settings and their animations.
Elements are added from the editor's Add panel: click an element to place it in the centre of the page, or drag it where you want it. Once the element is selected, its main settings appear in the bar above the page; all its settings are in More options.
A creation holds up to 200 elements.
Shape and icon colour
In the Add panel, the Shape and icon colour row sets the colour of the shapes, icons, weather and RSS feeds you are about to add. By default, it is white on a dark background and black on a light one. Other colour lets you pick any shade. You can always change the element's colour once it is placed.
Text
The panel offers three ready-made texts: Add a heading, Add a subheading and Add a paragraph.
To change the text, double-click it on the page and type directly. You can also change it in More options > Text. A text holds up to 2000 characters; an empty text is flagged before publishing.
In the settings bar:
- the Font;
- the size, with Decrease size and Increase size (in 10% steps) or by typing a value;
- the Text colour;
- Bold;
- the alignment: Left, Center, Right.
In More options: Text, Font, Size (px), Weight, Line height, Letter spacing (px), Color, Alignment and Vertical alignment (Top, Middle, Bottom).
Available fonts
Creations use six fonts, identical in the editor and on every screen:
| Font | Available weights |
|---|---|
| Inter | 100 to 900 |
| Roboto | 100 to 900 |
| Open Sans | 300 to 800 |
| Montserrat | 100 to 900 |
| Playfair Display | 400 to 900 |
| Roboto Mono | 100 to 700 |
You cannot upload your own fonts.
Shapes
The Shapes section offers two families of shapes.
Rectangle, Rounded, Circle, Pill, Line and Ring are adjustable shapes:
- in the bar: Shape (Rectangle or Circle), Fill and Border;
- in More options: Shape (Rectangle or Ellipse), Fill and Border (a colour, or none), border Thickness (px) and, for a rectangle, Corner radius (px).
Triangle, Star, Diamond, Hexagon, Arrow, Heart, Speech bubble, Badge, Cross and Chevron are drawings, like icons (see below).
Icons
The Icons section shows a selection of icons (star, heart, shopping cart, Wi-Fi, opening hours, coffee, parking…). Click See all to show the whole selection.
The Search icons field searches this selection and the whole Lucide icon library. Library icons are found by their English name (for example "coffee" or "calendar").
An icon, like a drawn shape, stays sharp at any size. Its settings:
- Colour: a single colour for the whole drawing;
- Proportions (in More options): Kept (the drawing keeps its proportions inside the frame) or Stretched (it fills the frame).
Emoji
The Emoji section offers emoji sorted into groups: Faces, Gestures, Hearts and sparkles, Food and drink, Weather and nature, Celebrations and leisure, Shops and places and Symbols. These are Microsoft's Fluent Emoji, drawn the same way on every screen.
An emoji keeps its original colours: only the Proportions setting is available.
Image and video
To add an image or a video:
- click a thumbnail in the Media panel: the element is created at the media's proportions;
- or click Image or Video in the Widgets and media section, then pick the file in the Choose an image or Choose a video window.
Only ready media (processed by the library) can be used. See Media library.
In the settings bar:
- Choose or Replace the media;
- the fit: Fill (the media covers the whole frame, cropped if needed), Whole (the media is shown in full inside the frame) or Stretch (the media is distorted to fill the frame);
- for a video, Sound turns the sound on or off.
More options shows the media name ("(not ready)" if it is still being processed, "Media not found" if it was deleted), with the Fit (Contain, Cover (crop), Stretch). For a video, you also get:
- Muted and Loop (on by default);
- Volume (%);
- Start (s) and End (s): to play only an excerpt. With an end of 0, the video plays until the end.
Videos and sound
A creation shows at most two visible videos at the same time. For a video to play with sound, set Sound to At most one video with sound in the Page panel: in a silent composition, all videos play without sound.
Time and date
In Widgets and media, Time adds a clock and Date adds today's date. Both are the same element, the clock, with a different format.
In the bar: Font, size and Color. In More options:
- Format: 24-hour time, 24-hour time with seconds, 12-hour time, short date, long date, or date and time (each format is shown as an example);
- Time zone (empty: the screen’s): leave it empty to show each screen's local time, or enter a time zone such as "Europe/Paris";
- Font, Size (px), Color and Alignment.
Day and month names are written in the language of the person who added the clock.
QR code
QR code (in Widgets and media) adds a QR code. Enter its content in the settings bar, in place of the example address: a web address, a text, a mailto: address or WIFI: Wi-Fi details (up to 1000 characters).
In More options: Content, Modules colour, QR background and Error correction (L 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, H 30%). Higher correction makes the code more robust, but denser.
Playlist zone
Playlist zone (in Widgets and media) reserves an area of the page that plays a playlist. Choose the playlist in More options > Playlist: only published playlists are offered.
The zone plays the latest published version of the playlist. It stays empty in the editor preview. A zone with no playlist chosen prevents publishing. See Programming.
Weather and forecast
In Live information, Weather adds the current conditions and Forecast adds the weather for the coming days. The default place is Paris.
To change the place:
- Click the place name in the settings bar.
- Enter a city or an address in City or address, then click Search.
- Click the right place in the results list.
In the bar: the place, the display (Now or Days), the Unit (°C or °F) and the Text colour. In More options: Font, Show the place name and, for the days display, Number of days (2 to 7, today included).
Forecasts come from MET Norway (CC BY 4.0 licence): the widget shows the credit "MET Norway" on the screen. The place search uses OpenStreetMap.
RSS feed
In Live information, RSS feed adds a news ticker at the bottom of the page.
- Replace the example address with your feed's address in the settings bar field. The address must start with
http://orhttps://and point to an RSS or Atom feed. - Press Enter or click elsewhere to apply it.
In the bar: the address, the display (Ticker, List or One at a time), the size and the Text colour. In More options:
- Font;
- Articles shown (1 to 20);
- Ticker speed (px/s) for the ticker display;
- Time per article (s) (1 to 120) for the one-at-a-time display;
- Show summaries, for the list and one-at-a-time displays.
Only article titles and summaries are shown, as plain text.
Data table
In Live information, Data table shows the information from an XML or JSON feed as a table: prices, timetables, availability, results… Pixlova reads the data again and updates the table on your screens.
Click Data in the settings bar, then:
-
Source: choose Feed address and paste the address (it must start with
http://orhttps://). Choose XML or JSON, then click Read. You can also choose File and Import an XML or JSON file (2 MB at most). -
One row for each…: Pixlova suggests the elements repeated in the feed, most frequent first, with an example. Choose the one that makes a row of the table (an accommodation, a period, a product…).
-
Columns (8 at most): Pixlova sets up the first three columns. For each one, set:
- the Column heading;
- the Information shown, including that of the parent element (marked "↑");
- the Column format: Text, Number, Price (€), Date or Date and time.
For a price or a number, Multiply by 7 (weekly price) turns a nightly price into a weekly price. Under each column, an example shows the value displayed. Add a column, Move left and Remove column complete the table.
In the bar: Data, the size, the text colour and the heading background. In More options:
- Title and Note below the table (for example "Prices include VAT.");
- Font and size;
- Rows per page (1 to 50) and Page duration (s): beyond one page, pages follow one another;
- Show column headings and Show update date;
- the colours of the text, title, headings, table background and Every other row.
The feed address and your settings stay on Pixlova: screens only receive the formatted table. Only addresses that can be read directly, without a username or password, are supported. An imported file is never read again: import a new one to update the table.
How live information is updated
Screens never fetch the weather or the feeds themselves: Pixlova fetches the data and sends it to the screens along with the content.
- RSS feeds and data tables are read again every 15 minutes, the weather about every 30 minutes. The screens concerned receive the new data automatically.
- A screen that is offline keeps showing the latest data it received.
- Until data has been read for the first time, the widget is shown as waiting. This does not prevent publishing.
In the editor, the settings bar shows the state of the data: "Loading data…", "Source unreachable: latest known data." or the feed's error message (address refused or unreadable, for example).
Animate an element
The Animate button in the settings bar adds motion to the selected element. An animation has two optional parts:
- Entrance, played when the creation starts being displayed: Fade, Rise, Drop, From the right, From the left, Zoom or Pop. Set its Duration (0.1 to 10 s) and its Delay (0 to 60 s);
- Motion, repeated as long as the creation is displayed: Pulse, Float, Spin, Shake, Blink or Bounce. Set the Cycle length (0.2 to 60 s).
Choose None to remove the entrance or the motion. In the editor, animations are paused while you work: click Play the animation to see them on the page, or open the preview.
Up-to-date Players
Icons, emoji, drawn shapes, weather, RSS feeds, data tables and animations require a recent Player. A Player that has not been updated yet keeps its current content, and the screen reports the incompatibility as long as such a creation is intended for it. See Players.
