Add a screen

Create a screen in Pixlova and pair it with its Player using the code shown on the screen.

To play content on a screen, you need two things: a screen in Pixlova and a Player connected to that screen. The link is made with the pairing code that the Player shows on the screen.

Before you start

  • Install and start the Player on the device plugged into the screen, or open the web Player in the screen’s browser. See the Players section.
  • You need the technical configuration permission (Owner, Administrator or Technician roles).
  • If your organization has several sites, choose the screen’s site in the application header, or on the Site: line of the form (Change link). With no site chosen, the application asks “On which site should the screen be added?”.

The pairing code

When it starts, the Player shows a code in the XXXX-XXXX format:

  • it is valid for 5 minutes and works only once;
  • each HDMI output shows its own code. The screen will be bound to the port whose code you enter, so type the code shown on the screen you want to connect;
  • as soon as one code is used, the other codes shown at the same time by the same device are no longer valid. The Player then shows a new code on its outputs that are still free;
  • for the web Player, each player number (tab) has its own code.

If the code has expired, wait for the Player to show a new one, then try again.

The + Add a screen button on the Screens page opens Setup. It creates the screen, pairs it and starts a first playback, all on one page.

  1. Under On the screen, follow the instructions: open the web Player or start the installed Player; a code in the XXXX-XXXX format appears.
  2. If you already have screens or Players, choose A new screen.
  3. Enter the Code shown on the screen.
  4. Give a Screen name your team will recognize (for example: Street window, Counter menu).
  5. Optional: enter a Player name. By default, the Player is named “Player” followed by the screen name. This name is only used if the code comes from a new device.
  6. Click Connect the screen.

The screen is created at the resolution reported by the Player’s output (1920×1080 if the Player does not report it), then bound to that output. You can change its format later in its settings. Setup continues with choosing content and playing it: see Getting started.

The A screen already installed choice shows your screens connected to a Player, your Screens without a Player (you will then type the code shown) and your Players without a screen (the screen is created under their name).

All licenses are in use

If all your screen licenses are in use, setup tells you: a new screen could not play. Free up another screen’s license from its page, or change plan.

Create a screen with a specific format

To choose the format, rotation and time zone yourself before pairing, use the Create a screen without a Player (format, rotation and time zone by hand) link at the bottom of setup. The Add a screen wizard has three steps.

Step 1: Name and format

  1. Enter the Screen name.
  2. Optional: enter the Player name.
  3. Choose a Format: Landscape 1920×1080, Portrait 1080×1920, LED banner 2688×672, LED banner 3840×480, LED totem 768×2304 or 4K 3840×2160.
  4. For another format, open Exact resolution, rotation and time zone: enter the Width (px) and Height (px) (from 32 to 7680 pixels per side, at most an 8K screen of 7680 × 4320), the Panel rotation (None, 90° (clockwise), 180° or 270°) and, if needed, a time zone (empty: the site’s).
  5. Click Create screen.

If all your licenses are in use, the screen is created inactive and its page opens: you can move another screen’s license to it, or change plan. Nothing is charged without your confirmation.

Step 2: Pair the Player

Choose how the screen shows content:

  • New Player: enter the Code shown on the screen, then click Pair.
  • Already paired Player: pick from the list a Player (and its output) that has not shown any screen yet, then click Pair. If none is available, the application says so: each paired Player stays bound to its screen.

You can also pair later with Later: open the screen’s page.

Step 3: What to show

The screen is paired. Choose what comes next: Schedule this screen, Upload content or Start from a template, or click Finish to open the screen’s page. See Programming.

Pair a screen that has no Player

A screen created without a Player shows the Connect a Player to this screen box at the top of its page:

  1. Enter the Code shown on the screen, then click Link with this code.
  2. Or, if a paired Player has a free output, choose it under Available Player, then click Pair.

You can also do this from the Player card in the screen settings.

Pair a Player without a screen

The Players page has a Pair a Player box. Use it to register a device in your organization before you know which screen it will show.

  1. Enter the Pairing code (format XXXX-XXXX) shown by the native Player or the web Player.
  2. Enter the Player name.
  3. Click Pair.
  4. Then click Set up this screen to give it a screen and content.

Pairing a Player this way creates no screen and no license. All the Player’s outputs stay free and each shows a new code, which you will enter to connect each screen.

Troubleshooting

  • The code is refused: it may have expired (5 minutes) or already been used. Wait for a new code to appear on the screen and enter it.
  • The screen is bound to the wrong port: each output has its own code; enter the one shown on the screen you want. An output that has already shown a screen cannot receive another one: to reuse the device, delete its Player from its page, then pair it again.
  • You cleared the browser data of a web Player: it must be paired again. See Players.
