Manage Players

Find your Players, check their machine state, set language, time, standby, restart, remote access and volume, revoke or delete them.

A Player is the device that shows your screens. The Players page (Screens › Players menu) lists your organization’s native and web Players, and each Player has its own page.

To install a Player on a device, see the Players section.

The Player list

For each Player, the table shows:

ColumnContent
PlayerThe Player’s name (click it to open its page), its type (Native Player or Web Player) and its version. The revoked mention flags a revoked Player.
SiteThe Player’s site.
StateOnline, Offline (with the time of last contact) or Never connected.
ScreenFor each output: its name (for example HDMI-A-1), its resolution if the Player reports it, and the screen it shows. Bound to its screen (detached) means a detached output that stays bound to its former screen; to pair with a screen means a free output.

The Settings button on each row opens the Player’s page.

Next to the list, the Pair a Player box lets you register a device without giving it a screen right away. See Add a screen.

The Player page

The top of the page shows the Player’s name, its state (and, if it is no longer paired, the Revoked, Disabled or Deleted badge), its type, version, system and architecture, and its site.

The page is made of several cards, described below. It refreshes automatically every minute.

General

The General card holds the Player’s name and its outputs.

  1. Change the Player name.
  2. Click Rename.

Under Outputs and screens shown, each output appears with its resolution, (connected) or (disconnected) when the Player reports it, and the screen it shows. Each HDMI output shows one screen, and a Player stays bound to the screens it has shown.

Machine

The Machine card shows the latest state sent by the Player: at startup, then every 5 minutes. It is only filled in for up-to-date native Players; otherwise it says that no state has been received.

InformationDetail
Model, System, Image versionThe machine’s hardware and software.
HostnameThe machine’s name on the network.
IP addressesEach address with its interface and origin: DHCP, static, fallback address, link-local or other.
Local interfaceThe address of the Player’s administration page on its local network, or Not available.
Wi-FiThe network name (or Hidden network) and signal strength, or Not connected.
CPU temperatureIn °C, marked high from 80 °C.
Load (1 min), Running forProcessor activity and time since the last start.
SSHActive or Inactive.
Memory, DiskSpace used out of the total, with a gauge (orange above 90%).

If the state is more than 15 minutes old, the card warns that it may be out of date.

Fallback address

If no DHCP server answered, the Player takes a fallback address so that it can still be configured. The card points this out.

The local interface is only reachable from the Player’s local network. Its certificate is specific to the machine: your browser asks for confirmation the first time you open it.

Machine settings

The Machine settings card sets language, time, screen standby, restart, remote access and sound. Settings only become available after the Player first sends its machine state (up-to-date native Player). A setting the Player does not support is greyed out, with the mention This Player does not support this setting.

SettingChoices
LanguageAutomatic (machine language), Français or English. Language of the Player’s information screens (connection, pairing) and of its local interface.
Time zoneA time zone, or Managed on the Player. This is the machine’s time: screen schedule and daily restart follow it.
Screen scheduleAlways on, or On a schedule: choose the Days on, the Switch on time and the Standby time. Outside this range, HDMI outputs go to standby.
Daily restartDisabled, or Every day at the chosen Restart time. The screens are interrupted while it restarts.
SSH accessManaged on the Player, Enabled or Disabled. Remote administrator access, for technical work.
Local web interfaceLocal interface enabled or Local interface disabled. The Player’s administration page on its local network: network, Wi-Fi, SSH, credentials.
VolumeManaged on the Player, or Set here with a level from 0 to 100%. Sound volume of the machine (videos).

To change the settings:

  1. Make your choices in the card.
  2. Click Save settings, or Discard changes to go back to the saved settings.

The message Saved: applied within a minute if the Player is online confirms the change. The Player reads its settings every minute; an offline Player applies them when it reconnects.

Application or local interface?

A setting defined in the application takes precedence over the Player’s local interface, which shows it locked. Choose Managed on the Player to leave the local interface in charge.

A few rules:

  • The switch-on range fits within one day: standby must come after switch-on, on the same day (a range cannot cross midnight). Choose at least one day.
  • Times are the Player’s local time (its time zone).

SSH access

SSH gives full administrator access to the machine over the network: only enable it for the time of an intervention. The Player refuses it until the initial password has been changed on its local interface.

Changing these settings requires the technical configuration permission; without it, the card is read-only. A revoked Player’s settings can no longer be changed.

Player version

For native Players, the Player version card shows the installed version and lets you update or roll back. See Player updates.

Actions

The Actions card sends commands to the Player, which picks them up at its next contact:

  • Sync now: reads the schedule and settings right away.
  • Clear unused cache: deletes media that are no longer scheduled.
  • Restart the display: restarts the display software; the screens are interrupted for a few seconds.
  • Restart the machine: fully restarts the device, if the Player supports it. Requires the disruptive commands permission.

Under Latest commands, you find the history of commands sent. To learn more, see the Monitoring section.

Revoke or delete a Player

The page’s Danger zone offers two actions, which cannot be undone and ask for confirmation.

ActionEffect
RevokeThe Player no longer syncs and its screens are detached; their schedule is kept. It stays visible in the list, marked revoked. If it is offline, it may keep playing its cache until it reconnects.
DeleteThe Player disappears from the list and no longer syncs; its screens are detached but keep their schedule.

To reuse the device elsewhere, delete its Player, then pair the device again with a new code: it will be a new Player. See Add a screen.
