Player updates

Track a native Player’s version, update it right away or roll back to the previous version from the “Player version” card.

Native Players (Windows, Linux, Raspberry Pi) update themselves. The Player version card, on each Player’s page, lets you follow these updates and step in if needed.

How updates work

  • Automatically: every hour, the Player checks whether a new version has been published for its machine, and installs it on its own.
  • Safely: if the new version does not start correctly, the Player automatically goes back to the previous version, which it keeps on the machine. Playback resumes with that version.
  • While it restarts, the Player’s screens are briefly interrupted.

Other Players

The Player version card does not appear for the web Player. The Android TV Player is updated by installing a new APK: see the Players section.

The “Player version” card

Open the Player’s page (Players page, Settings button). The Player version card shows:

InformationDetail
Installed versionThe version currently running on the Player.
Latest published versionThe most recent version available for this type of machine, or No version published for this machine.
Last updateThe result of the last update, with the version and date.

The result of the last update can be:

  • Installed, starting: the new version is installed and starting;
  • Succeeded: the new version is running;
  • Cancelled, back to the previous version: the Player went back to its previous version;
  • Failed: the update could not be completed.

The card also says This Player is up to date. or Version X is available for this Player.

Update now

To install the latest version without waiting for the hourly check:

  1. In the Player version card, click Update now. The button is only active when a new version is available.
  2. Confirm. The Player’s screens are interrupted while it restarts.

The command is passed to the Player at its next contact. While it runs, the button says so; the result then appears under Last update.

Roll back to the previous version

If the current version causes problems:

  1. In the Player version card, click Roll back to the previous version.
  2. Confirm. The Player’s screens are interrupted while it restarts.

The Player goes back to the previous version kept on the machine and sets the current one aside.

Permissions

Updating or rolling back requires the disruptive commands permission (Owner, Administrator and Technician roles). Without this permission, the card stays visible but the buttons are disabled. A revoked Player no longer receives commands.
