Set up a screen

Connect a screen, choose what it shows and go live, all on the Setup page.

The Setup page takes you from a switched-on screen to your first content on air, on a single page and in three steps: Connect the screen, Choose what to show, Go live.

To open it:

  • click Set up a screen in the “Getting started” box on the Home page;
  • or click + Add a screen on the Home page;
  • or go directly to app.pixlova.com/start.

Who can set up a screen?

Setting up a screen requires the technical configuration or the publishing permission. A team member who can configure screens but not publish stops after the first step: someone who publishes can then choose what the screen shows. A member who can publish but not configure starts from a screen that is already connected.

Connect the screen

The Player is the software that shows your content on the screen. Under Screen to connect, choose A new screen or A screen already installed.

A new screen

On the screen:

  1. Open the web Player address shown on the page in the screen’s browser (smart TV, tablet, computer), or start the Pixlova Player installed on the device plugged into the screen. See Players.
  2. A code in the XXXX-XXXX format appears. It stays valid for 5 minutes.

In the application:

  1. Type the code in Code shown on the screen.
  2. Type a Screen name your team will recognize: Street window, Counter menu…
  3. Click Connect the screen.

Pixlova creates the screen in the current site, at the size announced by the Player, and connects it. If a step fails, clicking again resumes where it stopped.

Screen licenses

Each screen that plays content uses a screen license. If all your licenses are in use, the page tells you so: free up another screen’s license from its page, or change plan. See Plans and billing.

A screen already installed

The page lists what is already in Pixlova, with a search field (Search for a screen or a Player):

  • Screens connected to a Player: ready to play, pick one to move on to the content.
  • Screens without a Player: you will type the code the screen shows.
  • Players without a screen: paired but with no screen yet, the screen is created in their name.

To create a screen without a Player (format, rotation and time zone by hand), use the link at the bottom of the page. See Screens.

Choose what to show

The page asks What do you want to show on “Screen name”?

  • Drop an image or a video here, or click Choose a file. Accepted formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. The file is uploaded, prepared for display, then chosen automatically once ready.
  • Or pick content already in Pixlova: an image, a video, a published creation or a playlist.

No visual yet? Click Open templates in a new tab, start from a template (menu, promotion, welcome) and publish it: it shows up in the list, under “Creations”, without reloading the page.

Click Continue →.

Go live

The Go live on “Screen name” step sums up what will happen: the content will show continuously on the screen, day and night, until you schedule something else.

Click Go live now.

  • If the screen has no Player yet, the content will show as soon as a Player is connected to it.
  • If the Player is offline, it will receive the content when it reconnects.

The page then follows delivery to the screen and offers what to do next: View the screen, Schedule times, Set up another screen or Create a visual.

Good to know

  • Going live creates a program that plays the content continuously on this screen. You will find it under Scheduling › Programs. See Programming.
  • The chosen screen is kept in the page address: if you reload the page, you resume at the content step.
  • To go further (creations, playlists, time slots), read From a media file to the screen.
